For the early antebellum period: ‘Madison and Jefferson’ by Burstein and Isenberg, and ‘The Last of the Fathers’ by Drew McCoy
For later antebellum: I strongly recommend ‘Preserving the White Mans Republic’ by Joshua Lynn, ‘Henry Clay: Americas Greatest Statesmen’ by Unger and Schlesinger’s “Age of Jackson”, however beware of that book, it has solid criticisms and is older than the rest, however still worth reading.
Madison and Jefferson and Preserving the White Man’s Republic I strongly recommend as modern scholarship that doesn’t shy away from using the words like white supremacy and not engaging in apologetics.
Hell yeah, this was very fun. this pod’ll fit right alongside Chapo + its associated Hell series, Age of Napoleon, and whatever Mike Duncan’s coming out with next. No pressure Et.
Any books you could recommend on the era?
