I live in the well off northern suburbs that flipped blue so dramatically. When I first moved here Newt Gingrich was my representative that's how red this area was. When GWB was president every other car had a GWB bumper sticker. I got left a harassing note on my car for having a John Kerry bumper sticker, which was rare. Trump absolutely changed everything. My rich neighbors were too embarrassed to associate themselves with him. Zero Trump yard signs in my neighborhood.

And the numbers back this up. It was the wealthy suburbs that flipped GA to the left while the type of poor inner city black vote Abrams claimed to get out was flat relative to white turnout. Abrams achieved nothing. Trump gifted these heavily populated suburbs to Democrats.

Glad to see someone writing at length about the myth of Stacey Abrams. Politico did a pretty good job but barely scratched the surface. Stacey Abrams should have never been nominated again in 2022 a completely generic GA Democrat would have done better.

Understanding how the closest governor's race in Georgia since 1966 could be an incredible failure is too complicated for the casual Democrat to understand at first look and the hype built around her meant the media not only supercharged the comforting myth around her, it helped reinforce that myth so that not only does that sound a little weird but also goes against everything they've heard about the race. That's a pretty major failure on their part, but that's a decent sized claim which needs decent sized evidence. I anticipate next piece, as in this one, you back them up extensively. Meanwhile in retrospect the media really didn't and doesn't show much at all in way of support for their incredible claims about her, which just the same demand an incredible basis to make — no matter if those are things that would be nice if true and that we may deeply wish were the shape of the world.

I'm impressed as hell with this article and expect the second installment rises to the same height, but am sure there are mistakes or additional information that could be out there even if they don't actually meaningfully change the thesis. Without a doubt you would update and respond to any, since this sure as hell has been data driven, but I do not anticipate the inevitable backlash against this does the same in kind. Populism is an unfortunately rampant and importantly online disservice to the Democratic party and it's own goals, but for the populists and reactionaries the creation myths and self narrative always and must take priority over the noble quest they supposedly place above all.
